Loyola Hosts Annual Blood Drive

On Thursday, February 12th, Loyola once again partnered with the American Red Cross for its annual M.M. Miller Blood Drive, which began in 2000 by M.M. Miller.   The Millers, in honor of their mother, continue to sponsor the blood drive.

M.M. Miller was a writer and philanthropist and was one of the first female screenwriters at MGM. The blood drive was open to all students sixteen and older along with parents, alumni, and friends.  193 students gathered to give blood and over 230 pints of were donated during the event. “Because of the time and effort of the Loyola community over 695 lives will be saved, “ said Jose Chavez, Account Manager of Bio Medical Services at the American Red Cross. The annual M.M. Miller blood drive is considered the largest blood drive in Southern California.  See some photos here.

Loyola’s FIRST Robotics Team, the Killa-Nyte Cubs, is competing at our qualifying tournament this weekend at Rancho Mirage High School.  This year the competition spans 3 full days from Friday through Sunday. (In prior years, the team had Sunday free.)

Loyola Hosts record number of college representatives on campus

During the recently-concluded college representative visit season a total of 142 individual colleges/universities visited LHS between the beginning of September through the beginning of December. This is a real feather in our cap and something to take great pride in.

We would like to point out that college reps came to LHS also via 2 other means. One was the JET Tour (Jesuit Excellence Tour) which brought reps from 18 Jesuit colleges (Seattle U, Santa Clara, Xavier, Regis, LMU etc.) and the RACC Tour which included 23  representatives from schools like U of New Mexico, Bradley, SMU, U of Nevada Reno, U of Alabama, St. Louis U.

The other venue  was our College Admissions Essay Workshop which brought 33 reps from schools like Boston College, USC, Occidental, Gonzaga, etc. to read the college essays of our seniors and offer their expertise and suggestions.

Not through yet though as we are also having several colleges visit this Spring to speak with our Juniors.
