Loyola is located in central Los Angeles and draws students from every area in the city and suburbs.  Admission is by entrance examination, recommendations, and elementary school grades.  Typically, 130 elementary schools are represented in a freshman class drawn from an applicant pool representing over 240 schools.  Approximately 45% of those who apply are enrolled.  Loyola's tuition in 2017-18 is $19,960.  Some 46% of the students are Latino, African-American, Asian, or Filipino.  First generation college applicants comprise 17% of Loyola's student body. These students are supported by a four-year program which intentionally addresses college access and resources through the First Generation Student Association.
