Loyola Welcomes Parent Club Presidents for 2020-21

Loyola High School of Los Angeles President Fr. Gregory M. Goethals, SJ ’73 is pleased to introduce Elizabeth Warner, Will Smith and Jill Plumb as the newest Parent Club presidents for the 2020-21 school year. Elizabeth and Will, who are the Loyola Mothers’ Guild (LMG) and Fathers’ Club presidents, respectively, officially began their terms in August while Jill took her post as St. Ignatius Guild president in January 2021. All three are parents of current Cubs and recent alumni and have been involved in LMG and Fathers’ Club activities for a combined 15-plus years.

“Each year, we seek parents who are dedicated to Loyola and see the goodness in God’s unconditional love alive in this institution,” said Fr. Goethals. “We look for true leadership and an understanding of our school that they will bring to their role at Loyola. Just like their predecessors, we are fortunate to find this dedication once again in these three wonderful Cub parents.”

Though traditional gatherings, events and socials have all been put on hold this fall and winter due to the pandemic, Fr. Goethals knows that this trio will be able to put in place innovative ways for their different clubs to get together during the pandemic. “Elizabeth, Will and Jill are true leaders and have proven through many years of service to Loyola that they understand this great institution and how it can be served under any circumstances,” he added. “All three have the skills needed to engage fellow parents. They know how to draw people together to bring support to Loyola and accomplish the tasks that need to be accomplished, which is especially important during this time of COVID-19.”

LMG President – Elizabeth Warner (lmgpresident@loyolahs.edu)

Elizabeth Warner, a former co-chair of the LMG Spring Luncheon Silent Auction and Raffle and valued volunteer in the Interchange Auction office, has been involved with LMG for the last five years. She is the mother of Scott ’18 and current senior Jackson ’21, residing in Westchester. Honored to have been selected as President of the 90-year-old Guild, Elizabeth aims to give back to the school and people that have given so much to her family.

“Serving as President of LMG gives back only a fraction of the wonderful things Loyola has done for my boys, so it is truly an honor and a privilege.  They found their passions at Loyola and created friendships that I know will grow well into the future,” said Elizabeth. “I count my Loyola Cub moms as some of my nearest and dearest friends. The group of ladies that make up the LMG Board are incredible and relentless in their desire to make Loyola an even better school and I’m excited to continue working with them all.”

LFC President – Will Smith (fathersclub@loyolahs.edu)

An active Board member of the Fathers’ Club for many years, Will Smith is the father of three Cubs (August ’18, Powell ’20 and current senior McGowan ’21) and resides in San Marino with his wife, Amy. He has helped coordinate Loyola’s Days of Service and assisted fellow parents during the busy spring event season, including the LMG Luncheon. Loyola High reinstated the Fathers’ Club in 2008 and it has since grown into a service-oriented organization with multiple outreach efforts throughout the school year. Will looks forward to the opportunity to reunite on campus and give back with his fellow Cub fathers.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to support Loyola’s mission––with a bit of muscle and/or labor from time to time––and provide Cub dads with opportunities to get involved and share their Loyola experiences,” said Will. “I also look forward to seeing my Cub brothers in person again on the Fathers’ Club Board, sharing the laughter and bonds of friendship that define every experience we have when we get together. Most importantly, I look forward to a return to campus and the purposeful community that we all enjoyed before the pandemic.”

SIG President – Jill Plumb (sigpresident@loyolahs.edu)

Jill Plumb recently accepted the invitation extended by Fr. Goethals to lead Loyola’s large and dedicated group of alumni mothers, also known as the St. Ignatius Guild. Since 2014, Jill has served on the Mothers’ Guild Board and contributed to LMG in a variety of positions, including Spring Luncheon Co-Chair and Area Coffees Co-Chair, while also contributing on the Marketing/Communications side for both LMG and SIG. Jill has also held leadership roles in the Interchange Auction office and plays a large part with the Loyola Football program as a team mom. She resides in Westchester with her husband, George, and sons Bennett ’17, Gibson ’20 and current junior Aidan ’22. She brings valuable experience to the role that will allow her to serve the alumni parent community while keeping a pulse on current happenings at Loyola High School, both on and off campus.

“I have loved serving on the Loyola Mothers’ Guild Board for the last six years and am so honored and excited to now transition into this leadership role for alumni parents,” said Jill. “I cherish the friendships I’ve made during our shared efforts to support the high school we all love. I look forward to the opportunity to help facilitate and expand that same experience for our thousands of alumni parents.”
