Care for Our Common Home

Scroll Down

The Universal Apostolic Preferences of the Society of Jesus call us to be mindful and active agents in the shared responsibility of Caring for Our Common Home.  Loyola intentionally incorporates an ecological framework into the curriculum and culture on its campus.  As a “globally minded” institution, Loyola students and faculty are called to consistently deepen their commitment to a more sustainable campus and a more environmentally just world.  As Pope Francis teaches in his Papal Encyclical, Laudato Si,  “Many of those who possess more resources seem mostly to be concerned with masking the problems or concealing their symptoms…” (No. 26).  At Loyola, there is not room for selfishness or indifference to “the cry of the earth and the poor.”

The Universal Apostolic Preferences

Developed by the International Jesuits, the UAPs are the underlying foundations of Jesuit education to build a hope-filled future:

  • Promoting Discernment and the Spiritual Exercises
  • Walking with the Excluded
  • Caring for our Common Home
  • Journeying with Youth

Sustainable Development Goals

Loyola High School’s faculty and students identify the intersection of global challenges when it comes to human interaction with the environment. The UN Sustainable Development Goals help frame our discussions in the classroom and guide our actions for Environmental Justice.
