Superior of Jesuit Community
Fr. Tony Sholander, SJ
Fr. Anthony Sholander, SJ serves as superior of Loyola High School’s Jesuit community and, in that capacity, represents the Jesuit Provincial on the school’s Board of Directors. He also ministers at the school in pastoral care.
Fr. Tony earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Loyola University of Los Angeles (1976), a Master of Social Work from Saint Louis University (1979), a Master of Divinity from the Weston School of Theology (1984), and a Master of Sacred Theology from Regis College, Toronto (1985). Much of his life as a Jesuit has been given to the formation of younger members of the Society, including two terms as Provincial Delegate for Formation. That work has carried him across the landscape of Jesuit education: as a counselor at Brophy College Preparatory in Phoenix; as a religion teacher and director of campus ministry at Jesuit High School in Sacramento; through a range of roles at Santa Clara University, among them resident minister and acting dean of students; as rector of the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley; and as vice rector of the Collegio Internazionale del Gesù in Rome.
At Loyola, that same work of accompaniment turns toward the school’s students. Fr. Tony leads retreats and liturgies, hears confessions, and counsels young men as they make their way through Loyola — ministry in which his training in psychology and social work meets his life as a priest.
