Graduation Information

Dear Parents/Guardians and Members of the Senior Class,

With our sights set on graduation, I invite you to participate fully in all the farewell activities for the Class of 2025. I earnestly hope that our graduation events will be the kind of dignified and joyful celebration we all deserve after so much effort, hard work, and sacrifice. Because each of these events is a genuine milestone, which will be remembered for a lifetime, each senior is expected to excel with regard to dress, behavior, and schedule. Please review this letter with your son.

SCHOOL AWARDS ASSEMBLY: We are pleased to honor our graduating seniors and underclassmen at the School Awards Assembly. These awards recognize the outstanding service, involvement, and accomplishments of members of the Loyola student community who incarnate our school’s philosophy and goals. Parents are encouraged to attend the School Awards Assembly on Tuesday, May 27th, at 11:30 a.m., in Caruso Hall.

If a senior has received a scholarship, grant, or honor in conjunction with his college admission, please bring or send a photocopy of the award to Mrs. Khisna Holloway in the Main Office, for inclusion in the School Awards Program. You may also email the information from the awarding institution to kholloway@loyolahs.edu. Only those awards that are associated with the college where a senior will matriculate will be printed.

GRADUATION PRACTICE: Graduation practice will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 5th. Attendance is absolutely mandatory if your son wishes to participate in graduation ceremonies. There are no exceptions. If a senior is not present at Graduation Practice, we will assume that you and he have chosen not to participate in the Baccalaureate Mass and the Commencement Exercises. During the practice, the seniors will be given their caps, gowns, and four (4) tickets for the reserved seating for the Commencement ceremony. No more than four tickets will be given for the reserved seating, although there is no limit to the number of guests one may invite to Commencement. Practice will run until we are finished. The approximate time for dismissal will be 3:00 p.m.

BACCALAUREATE LITURGY AND RECEPTION: The Baccalaureate Liturgy will be held on Friday, June 6th, at 7:00 p.m. in Caruso Hall. Because of space limitations, this event must be limited to the senior’s immediate family. Tickets are not needed for Mass. Seniors are asked to report to their assigned classrooms at 6:30 p.m.

ATTIRE FOR GRADUATES AT LITURGY: Dress shirt, tie, dress slacks, dress shoes and socks, and gown. Please be sure your son does not bring his academic mortarboard this evening, as it is not worn at the Baccalaureate Liturgy.

Following the Baccalaureate Liturgy, I hope you will join us as we honor our seniors with a reception in the Malloy Commons. The reception is a time to gather informally with the administrators, faculty, and the many friends of the seniors. It is also a great time to take photos with your sons and the faculty in their academic attire!

156th COMMENCEMENT EXERCISES: The Commencement Exercises will be held on Saturday, June 7th, at 9:00 a.m. Seating is reserved (4 tickets per graduate) until 8:45 a.m. At 8:45, all seating is open on a first-come basis. There is no limit to the number of people who may be seated. We encourage you to carpool, as parking is limited. Please be advised that you should probably not make plans for after graduation festivities until about 1:00 p.m. as this is another opportunity for photos and conversation. The graduates must also return their caps and gowns to their assigned rooms before leaving campus.

ATTIRE FOR GRADUATES: The attire for the Commencement Exercises will be the same as the Baccalaureate Liturgy; however, the mortarboard is worn at the Commencement Ceremony. Seniors are asked to report to their assigned classrooms in Loyola Hall at 8:30 a.m. The academic procession for the conferral of diplomas will begin at 9:00 a.m. During the ceremony, the eight most prestigious awards will be conferred. The chosen Valedictorian for the class of 2025 will deliver the Valedictory Address during the ceremony.

I WISH TO REMIND YOU THAT NO DIPLOMA WILL BE ISSUED IF:

  • the Dean and Administration witness a breach of decorum at Commencement or any graduation event;
  • there is any remaining financial obligation to the school;
  • the student fails a course during this final semester
  • the student has failed to complete any other requirement for graduation, e.g., the Christian Service requirement;
  • the student fails to return his rented gown;
  • the student has outstanding obligations to the Dean’s Office

If any of the above obligations is a potential issue, please attend to it immediately to avoid last-minute anguish and disappointment. Please telephone Mrs. Khisna Holloway at ext. 1207 if you have any questions.

As we celebrate the 156th Commencement Exercises of Loyola High School of Los Angeles, we look forward to these ceremonies that honor all the members of the Class of 2025 for the ways they have excelled as students, gentlemen, and sons of Loyola. They inherited a vibrant tradition four years ago when they began their Loyola careers, and we are gratified by the manner in which so many members of this class have embraced Loyola’s tradition of excellence in all things. We pray they will continue to grow to be men of conscience, competence, and compassion as they move to the next set of challenges. We are most grateful for your cooperation and collaboration over these past few years and for the many sacrifices you have made on behalf of your sons

We very much look forward to your continued association with Loyola as friends and alumni

Sincerely yours,
Jamal K. Adams
