Incoming Freshmen Placement Exams (Class of 2029)

Loyola High School’s Mathematics and Foreign Language Departments are offering placement exams for incoming 9th graders (Class of 2029) on Saturday, May 10, 2025. The Mathematics placement is mandatory, but the Foreign Language placement exam is optional.

Math Exam Details — 8:00 a.m. 9:15 a.m.
Arrive by 7:40 a.m. and report directly to Caruso Hall (front circle) by 7:45 a.m.
Coffee & refreshments will be served in Malloy Commons for parents.

The math placement exam is a comprehensive exam assessing a full year of Algebra 1. Here is a list of topics assessed. Here are sample questions. The exam consists of 45 questions. Calculators are not allowed. Students should bring two sharpened #2 pencils. See the FAQ handout here.

No external aids or assistance are allowed, meaning the student may not receive any external help in answering the exam questions. Cell phones or electronics of any kind (smartwatches, etc.) should not enter the testing room.

Foreign Language Exam Details — 9:30 a.m.
All newly-admitted freshmen are invited to take an optional Foreign Language placement exam (Spanish, French, Latin, Mandarin) at 9:30 a.m. in Caruso Hall.
