Summer: Introduction to Chicano Studies

This class is designed to examine the history of Chicanos in the United States. The course will survey political, economic, cultural, intellectual, aesthetic, and religious contributions of Chicanos. Students will study the major events in Chicano history, as well as people who have made significant contributions to the development and advancement of the Chicanos and their culture. Connections across time and place using a Chicano perspective will be used to answer overarching questions. In addition to the textbook, additional sources such as maps, music, specific books and movies will be used; the Internet, guest speakers and group discussions will also serve to help deepen students’ understanding of Chicanos.

6th – 12th Grades
