Open to any interested high school music student. Class will cover the basic elements of music theory including notes, staffs, clefs, scales, modes, key signatures, time signatures, rhythms, beaming, triad construction and identification, seventh chord identification and construction, harmonic analysis both Roman numeral and figured bass. Musicianship topics will include pitch matching, sight-singing, aural dictation for pitch, melody, rhythm, and chords. This class is intended for students who do not have any music theory experience, and it would also be appropriate for students wishing to take AP Music Theory. Loyola AP Music students who take this course will be exempt from the summer music work pack and test.
